Development of the Northern Cape IDP Environmental Toolkit

Development of the Northern Cape IDP Environmental Toolkit
In 2003, the National Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT) developed a National Framework Document entitled Strengthening Environmental Sustainability in the Integrated Development Planning Process. This aimed to provide direction for the incorporation of environmental issues in Integrated Development Plans (IDPs) and related processes.

DEAT have subsequently funded the development of “Environmental Toolkits” which aim to assist IDP staff in incorporating sustainability principles in their integrated development plans.

Such a toolkit has already been developed by the EEU for the Western Cape Province (2005), and we are currently involved in developing a similar toolkit for the Northern Cape Province.
