KERRIE FONTEIN AND DARLING WIND FARM
SCOPING AND EIA PROCESS
DEA REF: 12/12/20/1928

The Oelsner Group (Pty) Ltd is proposing to develop the ‘Kerrie Fontein and Darling Wind Farm’. The Project comprises 16 wind turbines with the potential to generate 20.8MW of energy for national distribution and will be an extension of the Darling Demonstration Wind Farm which has been in operation since 2008. Associated infrastructure includes a new substation, access route off the R27, internal access roads and transmission lines. The Project is located approximately 75km north of Cape Town, near the Junction of the R27 and the R315 between Darling and Yzerfontein.

In terms of Government Notice R385, R386 and R387 of 21 April 2006, in terms of Section 24(5) of the National Environmental Management Act (107 of 1998), a Scoping and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process is required. The listed activities which trigger the assessment are as follows: 1(a) (GN No. R. 386) and 1(l), 14 & 15 (GN No. R. 387).

The Environmental Evaluation Unit (University of Cape Town) has been appointed as the independent environmental practitioner to manage the Scoping and EIA process. This website provides access to public documents produced in relation to the Project.
